Rihanna sues and wins after her face is used without permission

Think twice before you use a celebrity’s image without their permission. Arcadia, the parent company for Topshop in the UK had been distributing t-shirts bearing an image of Bajan star Rihanna which was taken during a video shoot in 2011.

The megastar sued the company and won $5 million. The Judge in the High Court in London ruled that a “substantial” number of retailers would likely purchase the shirt assuming Rihanna approved it.  He added that it represented a loss of control over her reputation in the “fashion sphere”.

Rihanna’s own fashion line was launched earlier this year at River Island.

Kind of makes you think about putting famous folks on all these promotional flyers huh?
